Norway election study shows ideological shift to the right

A new study from the Institute for Social Research analyzing the 2025 Norwegian parliamentary election indicates a significant ideological shift toward the right among voters. While the red-green coalition maintained a majority, the margin decreased from 32 seats in 2021 to just seven seats in 2025.

Researchers Johannes Bergh and Atle H. Haugsgjerd found that Norwegian voters are increasingly favoring lower taxes and fees, stricter immigration policies, and less intrusive climate and environmental measures. There is also a growing openness to private solutions over public ones. The Progress Party (Frp) emerged as the largest party on the conservative side, surpassing the Conservative Party (Høyre).
