Norway faces debates over road financing and training centralization
Discussions regarding Norway's road infrastructure and financing models are intensifying. A local business owner from Sørby trafikkskole has expressed concerns over the potential centralization of driver training, which he fears will increase travel distances and costs for students. He has called for a dialogue with Statens vegvesen to explore local solutions for training facilities.
Separately, experts are questioning the current separation of county road financing from other transport infrastructure. Following landslides near Levanger that forced traffic onto county roads, critics noted that while major national projects are funded by the Ministry of Transport, the financial burden of maintenance and damage from increased traffic often falls on the counties. There are calls to shift focus from new construction to the maintenance of the existing network, noting that current funding models for county roads have not met expectations.
