Norway falls in Global Innovation Index ranking

Norway has dropped in the latest Global Innovation Index, falling from 20th to 21st place among 139 economies. According to data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the country is seeing a decline in both innovation inputs and outputs.

Of particular concern is the decline in innovation outputs, where Norway fell from 26th to 30th place, marking its lowest position in this category to date. This suggests that despite significant resources dedicated to research and development, the country is struggling to convert these efforts into concrete results and value creation.

Kathrine Myhre, Director of the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, noted that while Norway has strong foundations for developing new products, it faces challenges in translating effort into tangible outcomes, specifically citing weaknesses in the international use of trademarks and design rights.
