Norwegian Football Federation demands FIFA President Gianni Infantino resign FAST-MOVING

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) announced that it will ask FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, saying he no longer has the institutional trust needed to lead the world governing body. NFF president Lise Klaveness said the loss of confidence follows Infantino’s failed plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors through a commercial subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise.

Infantino, who has led FIFA since 2016, is seeking a fourth and final term in the March 2027 presidential election and is currently the only declared candidate. The call for his resignation comes as UEFA has threatened to boycott FIFA competitions and several European national associations have withdrawn their support. In contrast, the African Football Confederation (CAF) has unanimously reaffirmed its backing of Infantino.

The NFF also said it will refer three matters to FIFA’s ethics committee: the abandoned investment plan, the peace prize awarded to former U.S. President Donald Trump, and the suspension of player Folarin Balogun at the 2026 World Cup. The controversy highlights growing pressure on Infantino ahead of the upcoming election.
