Norway fossil fuel ban for industrial processes sparks business concerns

The Norwegian government's decision to ban the use of oil and gas for heating industrial processes starting in 2030 has raised concerns among domestic manufacturers. Companies such as Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrikk and Vartdal Plastindustri warn that the mandate creates significant uncertainty and requires substantial new investments.

Bjørn Krekke, CEO of Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrikk, noted that recent investments in heat pump technology were made without knowledge of the upcoming 2030 deadline. He emphasized a need for predictability, noting that competitors in Sweden, Denmark, and other regions do not face similar requirements. Similarly, Vartdal Plastindustri highlighted the lack of viable alternatives as a primary challenge for businesses attempting to comply with climate goals.
