Energy and fuel prices fluctuate across Denmark and Norway

Energy and fuel prices are experiencing significant volatility in Denmark and Norway. In Denmark, electricity prices have risen above one krone per kilowatt-hour for the first time since late 2022, driven by high natural gas costs. However, some regions are expected to see prices drop below zero for several hours during the upcoming weekend.

In Norway, fuel prices have surged following the expiration of temporary tax cuts, with diesel and gasoline exceeding 30 kroner per liter at many stations. An analysis by Konkurransetilsynet suggests that major fuel chains like Circle K, Esso, and YX are benefiting from higher margins due to a pattern of frequent price hikes followed by slower decreases. This has led some consumers to seek cheaper fuel in Sweden, where tax reductions remain in effect, causing significant queues at border stations.

The high cost of diesel is also impacting the agricultural sector, with some farmers reporting that fuel costs have doubled, potentially leading to higher food prices.
