Norway health authorities warn of potent heroin causing overdoses
The Norwegian Directorate of Health has issued an alert regarding a highly potent batch of heroin circulating in Southeast Norway. The warning follows at least 20 reported overdoses and deaths linked to a brownish powder.
Authorities identified an unusual spike in overdoses in Arendal and have received reports suggesting the substance is also present in Oslo and Kongsvinger. The Directorate is utilizing its new anonymous reporting tool, overdosefare.no, to warn users about dangerous substances on the illegal market.
While preliminary data for 2025 shows a potential decrease in overdose deaths compared to previous years, the current potency of the circulating heroin poses a significant immediate risk to users.
