Norway heat wave eases as cooler, rainy weather returns

A recent heat wave that pushed parts of southern and eastern Norway above 30 °C, with a peak of 34.2 °C recorded in Nesbyen, is set to subside. Meteorologists say the warm air will give way to cooler temperatures and significant rain showers beginning Friday, with strong winds expected over the weekend. Forecasts call for temperatures around 20 °C on the east coast and a drop of more than 10 °C compared with the previous week, while rain and occasional thunderstorms may bring brief heavy downpours.

Western Norway (Vestlandet) will experience milder, drier conditions, with daytime highs near 20‑22 °C and less rain, making the region the most comfortable. Mid‑and northern Norway will remain cooler, with daytime highs in the mid‑teens and continued rain, especially in the north. The incoming rain is expected to help reduce forest‑fire risk, though the danger will not disappear entirely. Meteorologists advise anyone outdoors to monitor lightning forecasts and consider indoor activities over the weekend.
