Norway holds funeral for King Harald V in Oslo

Norway held a grand funeral ceremony in Oslo on September 9 to honor King Harald V, who passed away on August 28. The service at Oslo Cathedral was attended by European royalty and international representatives. Following the ceremony, the King was interred at the royal burial site at Akershus Fortress.

Details have emerged regarding the King and Queen Sonja’s final resting place. The Norwegian state allocated approximately 20 million NOK for a custom sarcophagus designed by the architecture firm Snøhetta. The design, which was a collaborative project involving the royal couple, is expected to feature a modern aesthetic using light stone, likely Norwegian granite.

Among the attendees was Prince Kyril of Bulgaria, who traveled to Oslo to support King Haakon of Norway. The two have maintained a close friendship since the 1990s, a relationship rooted in their shared experiences as young princes in European high society.
