Norway implements major agricultural investment strategy

Agriculture Minister Nils Kristen Sandstrøen has outlined the Støre government's recent commitment to Norwegian agriculture, describing it as the most significant investment in the sector since the 1970s. The policy focuses on strengthening food production across various regions of Norway through new agricultural agreements that will be fully implemented by 2027.

The strategy emphasizes three key areas:

1. District Support: Increasing subsidies for fruit, vegetable, and potato production, particularly in district zones to better utilize local resources.

2. Mountain Farming: Utilizing mountain regions—which house 5% of the population but provide 20% of food production—for meat and dairy through enhanced grazing subsidies and new investment grants for mountain dairies (seterkultur).

3. Northern Norway: Boosting food production in the north to enhance total national preparedness and food supply security, which is noted as a vital component of readiness for NATO member states.
