Norway implements stricter winter tire requirements
New tire regulations are taking effect in Norway as temperatures drop. In Northern Norway, requirements have been in place since mid-October, while Southern Norway will implement a minimum tread depth requirement of 3 millimeters starting November 1. Experts recommend maintaining at least 4 millimeters for optimal grip.
Drivers are also advised to check the age and quality of their tires, as rubber compounds harden and lose effectiveness over time, even if tread depth appears sufficient. Additionally, in Germany, winter tire regulations have tightened; since October 2024, tires must carry the Alpine symbol (a mountain with three peaks and a snowflake) rather than just the M+S marking, a rule that also applies to all-season tires used in winter conditions.
