Norway jumps to 19th in FIFA ranking after World Cup run
Norway’s men’s national football team rose twelve places in FIFA’s official world ranking, moving from 31st to 19th after reaching the quarter‑finals and finishing fifth at the recent World Cup. The climb is the largest among all nations following the tournament and marks Norway’s first appearance among the world’s top‑20 teams since 2011.
The updated ranking also saw Spain claim the top spot after defeating Argentina in the final, while other Scandinavian sides made modest moves – Sweden rose one place to 37th and Denmark to 21st. Norway’s advancement reflects its strong performance, including a 2‑1 win over Brazil in the round of 16 and victories over Ivory Coast and Brazil before a narrow extra‑time loss to England.
