Norway Justice Minister addresses security and preparedness
Norway's Minister of Justice and Public Security, Astri Aas-Hansen, has requested to brief the Storting regarding the Police Security Service (PST) and the ministry's management of the agency. This request comes amid what Aas-Hansen describes as the most serious security policy situation since World War II.
The PST is currently facing capacity challenges, with reports indicating the agency can only focus heavily on two to four of Norway's highest-priority threats. This limitation has drawn criticism from political figures, including the Conservative Party, and follows a previous audit by the Office of the Auditor General regarding insufficient resources for the agency's expanding mandate.
In a separate initiative, the Minister also launched the 2026 Self-Preparedness Week at Sola Culture House. The campaign emphasizes the importance of individual and societal readiness for scenarios where critical infrastructure, such as mobile networks, the internet, or power supplies, may fail due to extreme weather, technical errors, cyberattacks, or sabotage.
