Norway lifts general ban on outdoor fires

Norway's general ban on lighting fires in nature has been lifted as of Wednesday. The ban, which ran from April 15 to September 15, was in place during a period where emergency services responded to 694 forest and grass fires.

Despite the lifting of the general ban, authorities emphasize that individuals must remain cautious. Local conditions, weather forecasts, and common sense should dictate whether a fire is lit. The Oslo Fire and Rescue Service notes that the responsibility for fire safety lies entirely with the person lighting the fire.

Specific safety guidelines include keeping fires away from buildings, grass, and trees, and avoiding lighting fires on rock surfaces to prevent permanent damage. It is also advised that an adult, sober person be in charge of the fire and ensure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.
