Norway mountain cabin supply approaches record levels

The Norwegian mountain cabin market is approaching record-high supply levels, according to data from Finn.no. Real estate expert Eirik Dysthe notes that the market has shifted significantly in favor of buyers.

Key indicators of this shift include a high volume of properties being sold below the asking price. Approximately 80 percent of mountain cabins sold so far this year have closed for less than their initial asking price. Additionally, 38 percent of currently listed cabins have undergone at least one price reduction, a level described as the highest measured.

The median time a cabin remains on the market has more than doubled over the last three years, increasing from 50 to 105 days. While the market for cabins under five million NOK remains the largest, the number of listings priced above ten million NOK has increased more than fivefold since 2021. Popular destinations with high activity include Norefjell, Geilo, Trysil, Hafjell, and Sjusjøen.
