Norway navigates security risks and EU relations

Norway faces increasing geopolitical challenges regarding its security alliances and its relationship with the European Union. While the EEA agreement has provided stability, there are growing concerns that it acts as a political cushion that masks vulnerabilities, such as reduced democratic influence and increased susceptibility to trade policy shifts during international unrest.

As the EU moves toward more integrated security, climate, and industrial policies to compete with the US and China, Norway’s special arrangements may face less patience. This is particularly relevant as global trade tensions rise and the EU seeks reciprocal measures.

In the High North and the Arctic, the security environment is becoming more dangerous due to Russian activities. Discussions regarding the future of US-Norway cooperation emphasize the need to protect critical infrastructure and maintain democratic resilience against threats of sabotage and subversion.
