Norway prepares for digital disruptions and cyber threats

Norway is addressing increasing vulnerabilities in its digital infrastructure due to potential weather events, accidents, and sabotage. As one of the world's most digitized nations, the country faces risks to critical mobile and internet networks that could impact communication, commerce, and public services.

Authorities, including the Norwegian Communications Authority and the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB), are advising citizens to prepare for periods without connectivity. Recommendations include identifying local municipal information points and establishing community support networks.

In the private sector, reports highlight the scale of digital threats. Telia reported that in 2025, 95.1 million fraudulent calls targeted Norwegian mobile customers, averaging three attempts per second. To combat rising sophistication in scams, service providers are implementing background security measures such as automated call filtering and website blocking to protect users from malicious links and fraudulent communications.
