Norway promotes self-preparedness during national preparedness week
Municipalities across Norway, including Rennebu and Hitra, are hosting activities to mark the national self-preparedness week running from October 26 to November 1. This year’s theme focuses on maintaining communication and access to information in the event that mobile networks and the internet fail.
Authorities recommend that citizens be prepared to manage independently for at least one week during a crisis. Essential supplies include water, food, heat, light, necessary medications, and ways to receive information, such as a battery-operated or crank DAB radio. NRK P1 is designated as the emergency broadcast channel.
Local initiatives include practical demonstrations, information stands at libraries and shopping centers, and community meetings tailored to different age groups, such as seniors and students. The goal is to make preparedness practical and accessible, encouraging residents to secure power banks, extra batteries, and written lists of important contact numbers.
