Norway property maintenance delays rise in new survey

A new survey conducted by Norstat for the insurance company Frende reveals that two out of five Norwegians have postponed, canceled, or lacked the funds for necessary maintenance on their homes, apartments, or cabins. Approximately 40 percent of respondents report delaying essential upkeep.

Lill Cecilie Bjørndal Klementsen, building specialist at Frende Forsikring, warned that delaying maintenance often exacerbates problems, such as issues with gutters or loose roof tiles that become apparent during heavy rain. According to Finans Norge, damage to Norwegian house and cabin insurance exceeded nine billion NOK last year.

Regional differences were noted in the study: 51 percent of respondents in Østfold reported postponing maintenance, while those in Finnmark reported the lowest rate at 23 percent.
