Norway proposes new packaging rules aligned with EU standards
The Norwegian Environment Agency has submitted a proposal for new packaging regulations to the Ministry of Climate and Environment. The proposal aims to reduce the use of plastic and unnecessary packaging in daily life by aligning Norwegian rules with the new EU packaging regulation.
Key changes include a ban on single-use packaging for small cosmetic and hygiene products at accommodation sites, as well as a prohibition on packaging designed to make products appear larger than they are. The goal is to reduce both the weight and volume of packaging. Additionally, the regulations seek to increase the use of recycled plastic and improve recyclability. A new labeling scheme is also proposed to assist consumers with correct waste sorting. These measures are intended to ensure Norwegian businesses operate under the same competitive conditions as those in EU and EEA countries.
