Norway proposes postal service cuts in 2027 budget
The Norwegian government’s proposed 2027 state budget includes significant changes to postal services that have drawn sharp criticism from the graphic industry. The proposal suggests that, as a general rule, mail would be delivered only once a week starting July 1, 2027, with recipients able to collect mail at pickup points five days a week. Additionally, the budget proposes higher postage costs and a 24 percent reduction in funding for postal services between 2026 and 2027.
Norsk Industri has criticized the plan, stating that reduced delivery frequency and increased costs will hit the graphic industry hard. The organization warns that these changes could lead to the closure of magazines, reduced information dissemination via print, and potential impacts on reading literacy. The proposal also includes a transition contract for Posten, aiming to align postal pricing more closely with the parcel market, while allowing entities like banks and health services to purchase more frequent delivery for higher fees.
