Norway reaches record 97.6% electric vehicle market share for new cars

Norway has reached a significant milestone in electric vehicle adoption, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounting for 97.6% of all new passenger car registrations in July. This record-breaking figure represents 9,379 electric units out of 9,609 total new registrations for the month. While Tesla remains the leader for the year-to-date, Toyota saw a major rise in popularity, moving from tenth to first place among top brands in the last 12 months.

As the passenger vehicle market nears total electrification, the country is now shifting its focus toward more complex challenges. The Norwegian government is working to expand electrical infrastructure into rural and mountainous regions to support heavy transport. This strategy aims to facilitate the electrification of trucks, buses, and agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, which require higher power charging systems and larger installation spaces than standard passenger cars.
