Norway reaches World Cup last‑16 after Haaland’s late winner over Ivory Coast

Norway defeated Ivory Coast 2–1 in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, advancing to the knockout stage for the first time since 1998. Forward Erling Haaland, who entered the match as a substitute, scored the decisive goal in the 86th minute, sealing the win.

After the match Haaland said he scored because he was “too tired to play extra time,” and joked that Norway’s chances of beating Brazil in the next round were “very small.” The victory also saw Haaland become the fastest player to reach 60 international goals and the first in 72 years to score in each of his first three World Cup appearances.
