Norway records record-high hotel overnight stays in July

Norway recorded a record-breaking 4 million hotel overnight stays in July, the highest monthly figure ever registered according to Statistics Norway. Of these, 2.4 million were domestic tourists and 1.6 million were international visitors. Oslo and Vestland saw the highest number of stays, with the largest year-on-year increases occurring in Oslo, Akershus, and Innlandet.

Camping also experienced a strong summer, with 3.1 million overnight stays, a 6.9 percent increase from the previous year. Experts attribute the growth to favorable summer weather and a weak Norwegian krone, which makes the country an attractive destination for those using stronger currencies like the euro.

While national hotel stays reached record levels, regional trends varied. In Northern Norway, total overnight stays across hotels, camping, and hostels grew by 2 percent from January to July 2026, slightly trailing the national growth rate of 3 percent. While regions like Nord-Troms saw significant growth, other areas like Helgeland and Lofoten experienced lower activity compared to the previous year.
