Norway refugee settlement projections show decline through 2027

The Norwegian Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) projects a continued decline in the number of refugees requiring settlement in Norway. By 2027, approximately 8,680 individuals are expected to be settled, a decrease from the estimated 10,500 for the current year.

Libe Rieber-Mohn, Director of IMDi, noted that while numbers are falling from historically high levels, the volume remains significant. Since 2022, Norwegian municipalities have settled over 110,000 refugees, the majority of whom originated from Ukraine.

Labor and Inclusion Minister Kjersti Stenseng stated that the government aims to ensure integration capacity is not exceeded, emphasizing the importance of language acquisition and employment. Starting in 2027, the government will also implement stricter criteria for requesting and settling refugees.
