Norway reports progress in cervical and breast cancer outcomes

New studies from Norwegian health institutions highlight significant progress in cancer prevention and treatment. A study by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) indicates that the HPV vaccine provides highly effective protection against severe cell changes that lead to cervical cancer. Among young women vaccinated through the national program, instances of severe changes caused by HPV16 and HPV18 were nearly non-existent. Researchers suggest Norway is on track to meet its goal of eliminating cervical cancer by 2038.

In a separate development, research from the Cancer Registry of Norway shows that combination therapies for HER2-positive breast cancer with metastasis are effective in real-world clinical settings. The study found that survival rates for older patients and those with other health complications are comparable to those seen in controlled clinical trials. This suggests that modern combination treatments, which block the HER2 protein to prevent cell growth, are successfully providing long-term survival benefits to a broad range of patients in standard healthcare practice.
