Norway seaside cabin market sees decline in sales and prices

The Norwegian seaside cabin market has seen a decline in activity and pricing power. Between June 1 and August 10, 595 seaside cabins were sold, down from 650 during the same period last year and significantly lower than the 1,034 sales recorded in the peak year of 2020.

Data from Finn.no indicates that two out of three cabins sold this summer were sold below the asking price. On average, buyers negotiated a 4.6 percent discount. Eirik Dysthe of Finn Eiendom noted that the actual discounts may be even higher than reported, as the figures often only account for the final asking price rather than the original listing price.

Market trends also show an increase in the time properties remain on the market. The median time to sell a seaside cabin this summer was 32 days, compared to much faster turnover during the 2020–2021 pandemic period. Only 23 percent of sales exceeded the asking price this summer, a drop from the nearly 40 percent seen between 2020 and 2022.
