Norway seeks to extend detention of Crown Princess' son Marius Borg Høiby

Norwegian prosecutors have asked a court to keep 29‑year‑old Marius Borg Høiby in pre‑trial detention for an additional four weeks. Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, was sentenced on 15 June to four years in prison for two rapes, a domestic‑violence offence involving influencer Nora Haukland, and other charges. He has been held at the high‑security Ila prison north of Oslo since February while appealing the convictions.

The police argue that releasing Høiby would pose a risk of reoffending, citing the “danger of repeat criminal acts” as the basis for continued custody. The defence has criticised the request, questioning why further detention is needed. Earlier hearings allowed the possibility of home detention with an electronic ankle monitor, but the court rejected that option, citing the same risk concerns. A decision on the new detention request is expected at a hearing on Monday.
