Norway sees record insurance payouts for parking damage
Norwegian insurance companies have recorded record-high compensation payouts for parking damage in the first quarter of 2026. Total payouts reached 409 million NOK, representing a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Despite a decrease in the total number of reported parking incidents, the average cost per claim has risen significantly. The average payout per incident was approximately 18,700 NOK, up from 13,900 NOK in the previous year. Experts attribute these rising costs to the increased complexity and expense of repairing modern vehicles equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. Additionally, the increasing width of new cars compared to standard parking space dimensions has contributed to a higher risk of minor damage.
