Norway Sovereign Wealth Fund hits record 2.34 trillion USD profit
The Norwegian Government Pension Fund, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, reported a record-breaking profit of approximately 184 billion USD for the first half of 2026. Total assets under management have climbed to roughly 2.34 trillion USD, driven largely by a 9.4% semiannual return.
This growth was primarily fueled by the global semiconductor rally and the expansion of the AI sector. The fund has significantly increased its exposure to Asian technology stocks, particularly in Taiwan. Its holdings in Taiwan grew by 50.7% to reach 61.914 billion USD, with TSMC remaining its largest Taiwanese holding at 33.525 billion USD. Other notable increases include investments in MediaTek and Yageo.
CEO Nicolai Tangen noted that the fund's top five global holdings are now dominated by major US and semiconductor firms: Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, and TSMC. The fund also disclosed a 0.05% stake in SpaceX.
Despite the record profits, Tangen issued a warning regarding market concentration and volatility. He cautioned that the fund's increasing reliance on a small number of high-performing technology companies poses risks, stating that in extreme market collapses or geopolitical shifts, the fund's massive wealth could potentially be lost.
