Norway sovereign wealth fund signals shift in US bond strategy

The Norwegian Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG), the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, is signaling a shift in investment strategy. CEO Nicolai Tangen has warned of upcoming financial market challenges, citing high stock valuations, the dominance of a few technology firms, geopolitical conflicts, rising sovereign debt, and deglobalization.

Reports indicate the fund may significantly reduce its exposure to US Treasury bonds. This potential move could involve selling nearly $80 billion worth of US bonds from a June holding of approximately $215 billion. Such a shift comes amid growing global concerns regarding high levels of sovereign debt, particularly in the United States, where debt has exceeded $40 trillion.

The fund, which manages approximately $2.3 trillion and holds stakes in roughly 7,100 companies, serves as a global benchmark for long-term wealth management and pension coverage models.
