Norway Supreme Court rejects legal claims in separate cases

The Norwegian Supreme Court has issued rulings in two distinct legal matters. In the Melkøya case, representatives from Nordkalottfolket and the Labour Party's Sami groups are demanding that the Sami Parliament's plenary assembly decide whether to appeal to the Supreme Court. The groups cite costs exceeding ten million kroner and the potential impact on Sami consultation rights following losses in two lower court instances.

In a separate matter, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from lawyer Arvid Sjødin, who is seeking 16 million kroner from the state. The claim relates to his decades of work on the Birgitte Tengs case, which involved the wrongful conviction of a victim's cousin. Sjødin's legal representative expressed surprise at the decision and indicated intentions to take the matter to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
