Norway surgeons warn of rising electric scooter injuries

Medical professionals in Norway are warning of a rise in serious injuries caused by electric scooter use. Sunnaas Hospital has reported eight patients with severe injuries so far this year, a figure that matches the total number of such cases recorded throughout the entirety of last year.

Sasha Gulati, a neurosurgeon at St. Olavs Hospital and professor at NTNU, noted that many patients, including children as young as 14, suffer from severe head injuries that could often be prevented with simple measures like wearing helmets. Gulati suggested that banning electric scooters might be the simplest way to address the issue, noting that the current trend represents a setback for traffic safety in Norway.
