Norway to open honorary consulate in Izmir

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay hosted the Norwegian Ambassador to Turkey, Andreas Gaarder, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Izmir and Norwegian cities. A key outcome of the meeting was the announcement that a Norwegian honorary consulate will be opened in Izmir.

Ambassador Gaarder highlighted Izmir’s significant role as a major actor in shipbuilding and noted the shared maritime interests of both regions. Discussions also touched upon environmental and technological cooperation, including clean energy, maritime cleanliness, and electric vehicle infrastructure. Mayor Tugay emphasized Izmir’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and its role within the European Mission Cities framework.
