Norway labor disputes threaten Rema 1000 supplies and road projects
A potential strike involving approximately 700 employees in the wholesale and distribution sectors could disrupt food deliveries to Rema 1000 stores across Norway starting Saturday morning. The dispute involves negotiations between NHO Service og Handel and the unions Fellesforbundet and Yrkestrafikkforbundet (YTF) regarding the Grossistavtalen (Wholesale Agreement).
If mediation fails, the strike would affect 411 employees at Rema Distribusjon Norge, as well as operations at Thon Hotels and Felleskjøpet. Labor representatives are demanding increased purchasing power and the advance payment of sick, care, and parental benefits to ensure employees do not have to wait for Nav disbursements. Rema 1000 has stated they are prepared for potential disruptions to the flow of goods.
Separately, approximately 90 traffic controllers represented by Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund are also facing a potential strike starting Tuesday if negotiations with NHO Service og Handel do not reach an agreement. This could impact road projects, particularly in the Rogaland and Vestlandet regions.
