Norway Transport Minister calls emergency meeting over train delays
Norwegian Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård has called an emergency meeting with Bane Nor and the Norwegian Railway Directorate following a week of significant train delays and cancellations. The disruptions, which have heavily impacted travelers in the Oslo area, follow a period of summer maintenance work intended to improve the rail network.
Recent issues include power problems between Lysaker and Skøyen, a five-hour stoppage at Skøyen station due to signaling failures, and complications at the Romeriksporten tunnel between Oslo and Lillestrøm. Nygård stated that while startup issues after maintenance are not uncommon, the current level of service is unacceptable. The meeting aims to identify the causes of these failures and establish measures to prevent recurrence.
