Norway Transport Minister Kamzy Gunaratnam visits Rogfast tunnel
Norway’s new Transport Minister, Kamzy Gunaratnam, has addressed recent criticisms regarding her lack of a driver’s license and her political background in Oslo. Gunaratnam stated her intention to obtain a license, noting she plans to practice driving with Labour Party mayoral candidates to better familiarize herself with the country’s roads.
During her first official trip, Gunaratnam visited the Rogfast project in Rogaland, an undersea road tunnel under construction intended to be the deepest and longest in the world. The project, part of the E39 ferry-free highway, is expected to open in 2033 and reduce travel time between Stavanger and Bergen by 40 minutes.
Responding to concerns that her previous focus on Oslo’s rail infrastructure might lead to regional neglect, Gunaratnam emphasized her commitment to representing the entire country. She pledged to visit all Norwegian counties before the end of the year to ensure national visibility.
