Norway's mixed relay team wins gold despite medal engraving error

The Norwegian mixed 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of Karsten Warholm, Andreas Ofstad Kulseng, Amalie Iuel, and Henriette Jæger, secured a gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham with a championship record time of 3:09.62.

Following the victory, the team briefly refused to accept their gold medals because the organizers had engraved the incorrect winning time. Instead of their record-breaking time, the medals featured the 3:10.47 time achieved by the second-place British quartet.

Karsten Warholm described the situation as ‘absurd,’ noting that the team had fought hard for their specific time. After the error was identified, organizers apologized and provided the team with new medals featuring the correct championship record time.
