Norway workplace debate intensifies over remote work

A debate is emerging in Norway regarding the balance between remote work and office attendance. While many leaders advocate for a return to the office to foster collaboration, culture, and creativity, employees highlight the practical benefits of working from home.

Union representatives argue that remote work is essential for commuters to avoid lost time and for employees living outside major cities to maintain access to specialized job markets. They also cite research from Sintef suggesting that hybrid workers maintain productivity levels similar to full-time office staff while showing lower turnover rates.

Conversely, business perspectives suggest that the focus has shifted too heavily toward individual employee needs rather than the needs of the professional community. Data from NHO indicates a growing trend among leaders: the percentage of managers wanting less remote work has increased from 18 percent to 41 percent over the last two years.
