Norway's Akademikerne hosts research and wage debates at Arendalsuka
On 10 August, Akademikerne organized a panel at Arendalsuka in Arendal, featuring Leo Grünfeld, state secretary Eileen Fugelsnes (Ministry of Education and Research), Monica Molvær, Per Øyvind Langeland, Lise Lyngsnes Randeberg and professor Kalle Moene. The event launched two Menon Economics reports on the impact of research and development and on the employment of PhD‑educated workers, examining how Norway can increase the economic return on its billions of research investments and looking to Sweden as a benchmark for innovation.
The following day, 11 August, a wage‑inequality debate was held on the same stage. Tonje Køber of Statistics Norway presented data, while representatives from Akademikerne, LO and Tekna discussed how large wage gaps affect social trust and labour‑market shortages, and the future of state wage negotiations.
