Marius Borg Høiby sentenced to four years in prison

An Oslo district court sentenced Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old stepson of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, to four years’ imprisonment. He was convicted on two counts of rape – one at the Crown Prince’s Skaugum estate in 2018 and another in Oslo in 2024 – and on charges of domestic violence against his former partner, influencer Nora Haukland, as well as drug‑related offences. He was acquitted of two other rape accusations.

The court ordered compensation to the victims: roughly 200,000 NOK and 170,000 NOK for the two women convicted of rape, and 100,000 NOK to Haukland. Prosecutors had sought a seven‑year‑seven‑month term, while his defence asked for an 18‑month sentence and indicated an intention to appeal.

Høiby did not attend the verdict in person; he followed the reading via video link from Ila prison for medical reasons. The case has intensified scrutiny of the Norwegian royal family, as his mother, Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, is battling chronic pulmonary fibrosis and is on a lung‑transplant waiting list.
