Norway's royal family faces health issues for queen and crown princess

Norway’s queen, Sonja, aged 88, has been placed on a one‑week medical leave after doctors diagnosed atrial fibrillation linked to heart failure. The royal house said she will remain at home, will not be hospitalized, and her scheduled visits to four municipalities in Vestland county have been cancelled, although King Harald will continue his engagements alone.

Crown Prince Haakon publicly expressed worry about his wife, Princess Mette‑Marit, whose chronic pulmonary fibrosis has worsened. She now relies on daily oxygen support and may require a lung transplant. The prince highlighted the increasing severity of her condition during a recent event in Oslo.
