Norway’s royal family resumes duties as mourning for King Harald V ends

Norway’s royal household is concluding its month-long mourning period following the state funeral of King Harald V. The former monarch passed away on August 28 at the age of 89 (or 98, per some reports) due to complications from hemolytic anemia.

King Haakon VIII has assumed the throne, with Princess Ingrid serving as the heir to the throne. The royal family will gradually resume official duties, with King Haakon focusing on themes such as democracy, the environment, the economy, and defense. Queen Sonia is expected to return to public life on October 12, including a visit to the National Archives to view messages and drawings left by citizens in memory of the late King.

Queen Mette-Marit is currently in rehabilitation following a lung transplant and is not expected to resume an official schedule until next summer. During her recovery, Princess Ingrid has taken on a more prominent supporting role.
