Norway's Viking Row fan celebration goes global during World Cup 2026
Norway's national team secured a 3‑2 victory over Senegal to reach the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. Players joined the supporters in the coordinated "Viking Row" chant, mimicking rowing with drums and the cry "¡Ro!".
The celebration, devised by fan group Oljeberget in early 2025, quickly spread beyond Oslo. Viral videos showed crowds performing the ritual in Times Square, a New Jersey school, and other public spaces across the United States.
Norwegian supporters reproduced the rowing chant at a New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs game at Citi Field, and similar displays appeared in Boston, the Norwegian Parliament, and other venues. The phenomenon has been reported in Mexico and several other countries, illustrating its rapid cross‑border popularity.
