Norway’s Youth Sports Model and World Cup Starting XI Highlight Athletic Success

Norway’s sports development system, built around allowing children to play for enjoyment rather than competition, is credited with producing world‑class athletes across winter and summer disciplines. The approach eliminates early specialization, bans official scoring for youths under 13, and emphasizes effort, character and teamwork, helping athletes such as sprint‑hurdle record holder Karsten Warholm, triathlon Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt, tennis No. 2 Casper Ruud, golfer Viktor Hovland and football star Erling Haaland reach elite levels.

In preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match against Côte d’Ivoire, Norway announced its starting lineup. Goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland will start, with defenders Christopher Eira, David Möller‑Wolf, Marcus Pedersen and Torbjørn Hegg. Midfielders Patrick Berg, Sander Berge and Martin Ødegaard are selected, while the attack features Alexander Seleroft, Erling Haaland and Antonio Nusa.
