Norwegian business leaders show rising optimism despite economic risks
Recent economic reports indicate diverging perspectives on the Norwegian business landscape. According to the Azets Barometer, optimism among Norwegian business leaders has reached its highest level since December 2023, with economic outlooks rated at 7.6 out of 10. A significant majority of leaders expect increased turnover and profit over the next 12 months, with 82 percent anticipating higher investments.
Despite this optimism, leaders identified several persistent risks, including cyberattacks, recruitment challenges, regulatory requirements, and geopolitical uncertainty. Arne Norheim, CEO of Azets Norway, noted that while optimism is high, companies are operating in a much more uncertain environment than in the past, placing extra pressure on small and medium-sized enterprises.
In contrast, the NHO economic barometer highlights a more cautious view, noting that while the economy is growing, much of that growth is driven by the public sector. NHO Chief Economist Nejra Macic described the growth as fragile due to high interest rates and international instability. While mainland economic growth is expected to pick up next year, total GDP may face challenges due to declining activity in the oil and gas sectors.
