Norwegian cargo ship Misje Verde captain arrested after fatal collision off Sweden

Swedish prosecutors have arrested the captain of the Norwegian‑flagged cargo vessel Misje Verde after it collided with a recreational boat near Tjörn in the Kattegat on July 28. The collision killed a woman and her young daughter; the woman's husband and son were rescued.

The ship, sailing from Uddevalla, Sweden to Kragerø, Norway, had a seven‑person crew, all Russian nationals. Prosecutor James von Reis said the captain was detained on suspicion of negligence and a flight‑risk, with a decision on formal charges due by August 2. The vessel was briefly held by the Swedish Coast Guard before being allowed to leave the area.
