Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit Appears with Oxygen Tube as Pulmonary Fibrosis Worsens

Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended Norway’s Constitution Day on 17 May beside heir Haakon, but photos showed her using a nasal oxygen cannula held by a staff member. The visible equipment highlighted the serious progression of her chronic idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a disease she has lived with since 2018.

The appearance follows a similar public sighting in early April, and officials have noted that her condition has accelerated since late 2025, prompting discussions of a possible lung transplant. Her health issues have increasingly limited her public duties, with events now scheduled around her medical needs.
