Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit receives successful lung transplant

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, 52, underwent a successful lung transplant at the Rikshospitalet in Oslo after being diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. Doctors said she will remain in the hospital for several weeks of observation, a standard precaution for transplant patients.

Her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, has adjusted his official agenda to support her, and the royal family has been actively present. Queen Sonja visited the princess in the hospital, accompanied by Prince Haakon and their daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra. The visit was described as a symbol of family unity during the princess’s long recovery period.

The transplant follows a difficult year for the royal family, including the sentencing of Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, to four years in prison for rape and earlier public scrutiny over her association with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
