Norwegian Crown Princess Mette‑Marit placed on lung‑transplant waiting list

Princess Crown Heir Mette‑Marit of Norway has been added to the national waiting list for a lung transplant after her chronic pulmonary fibrosis, first diagnosed in 2018, entered a severe stage. Doctors at Oslo’s Rikshospitalet confirmed the condition is life‑threatening and that the transplant should be performed as soon as a donor lung becomes available.

While awaiting surgery, the princess will suspend all official duties. Crown Prince Haakon has begun revising his agenda, cancelling scheduled engagements such as attendance at the Swedish royal couple’s gold‑wedding celebration on 13 June and postponing the royal couple’s own silver‑wedding plans for August 2026. Their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, has returned to Norway to stay with her mother.

The royal household’s public calendar will be adjusted, and any upcoming domestic or foreign trips are being delayed until the princess’s health stabilises.
